PNG will make their ICC global tournament debut for the first time. The T20 World Cup 2021 campaign will kick off with the opening clash against Oman on 17 Oct. Vala's men won five out of six group matches at 2019's Men's T20 World Cup Qualifier and were runners-up to Netherlands.
Papua New Guinea has announced its 16-man squad to the upcoming ICC Men's T20 World Cup. It will be held in Oman and the United Arab Emirates. Their regular skipper, Assad Vala, will lead the Barramundis team. This is the first time that PNG has participated in a global cricket tournament in its history. On October 17, they will face Oman, the co-host.

PNG has revealed its World Cup squad ahead of the tournament. They will be competing in Group B, the first round of the World Cup, against Oman, Scotland and Bangladesh. PNG was defeated by Scotland in the qualifying group stage. To advance to the Super 12 stage, the team will need to have a strong start against Oman as a co-host.

PNG's opener Tony Ura and Norman Vanua, the bowling all-rounder, would be key to their success. Charles Amini, a leg-spinning All-rounder, has also been given the responsibility of directing the campaign.
Vala and his team had done well in the Men's T20 World Cup Qualifier in 2019, which took place in 2019. PNG was runner-up in the tournament, losing to The Netherlands at the final. They also won five of six Group stage games.
PNG is currently in Group B for the first round marquee event. PNG is also in Group B with Oman, Scotland, and Bangladesh. Scotland is the only team in Group B that beat PSG during qualifiers.
